Administration Establishes USDA Office of Seafood

The office will help seafood producers, processors, and cultivators access agriculture programs and federal resources.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently announced the creation of a new Office of Seafood intended to improve access to USDA programs for seafood cultivators, producers, and processors.  The office will work with the Department of Commerce and other federal partners as part of broader seafood policy coordination.

“With the launch of the USDA Office of Seafood, we are honoring decades of hard work on the water and opening the door to new opportunities, stronger support, and a brighter future for the seafood industry. Today’s announcement, in addition to the historic tax cuts and investments in rural America made possible through the priorities and provisions in the Working Families Tax Cuts, is truly a new chapter for America’s fishermen,” said USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins.

The announcement included participation from Agriculture Secretary Rollins, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett, Senator Dan Sullivan, and Senator Susan Collins.

Officials noted that fishing communities have faced difficulties accessing existing USDA resources despite the industry’s role in food supply and regional economies. The new office is expected to serve as a central point of contact for integrating seafood producers into applicable federal programs.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Rollins and other Cabinet members as they coordinate assistance to seafood cultivators, producers, and processors.
  • For officials in the USDA Office of Seafoodas they administer programs and partner with other federal agencies to provide support to the fishing industry.
  • For fishermen, seafood workers, processors, and coastal communities to make use of available programs to support their work and the nation’s food supply chain.
